Abstract
This research was conducted based on some problems in learning English especially in reading comprehension of narrative text. The objectives of the research were to find out if there is a significant difference on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught by using Power Notes Strategy and taught without using Power Notes Strategy at State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was Quasi-Experimental Research. The population of this research was the tenth grade students. The total number of population was 317 students. Since the number of population was large, the researcher used cluster random sampling by selecting two classes as a sample group; X IPA 5 that consisted of 30 students as experimental class and X IPA 4 consisted of 30 students as control class, so the number of the samples from two classes was 60 students. To analyze the data, the researcher adopted independent sample t-test formula by using SPSS 16. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that there was a significant difference between using and without using Power Notes Strategy on Students’ Reading Comprehension of narrative Text at State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru, where T-table showed 4.216 at significant level of 5% it showed 2.00, and at level of 1%, it showed 2.65. Thus, null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted which showed 2.00 ≤ 4.216 ≥ 2.65. In conclusion, there was a significant difference between using and without using Power Notes Strategy at State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru.
