Abstract

This research aimed to knowing whether students’ speaking ability could be improved by using World Cafe Strategy of the eleventh grade students at State Senior High School 3 Bagan Sinembah of Rokan Hilir Regency. The type of the research was a quasi-experimental research which used two groups in the research; control group and experimental group. The design was based on pre-test, post-test. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students at State Senior High School 3 Bagan Sinembah of Rokan Hilir Regency. There were 60 students as sample from 125 students. To analyze the data, the researcher used independent sample t-test by using SPSS 16.0 and effect size formula by Julie Pallant. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that the result of Independent Sample T-test formula; T showed 11.939 compared at significant level of 5% (2.00), and at significant level of 1% (2.65). It could be read 2.00<11.939>2.65 and it means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there is a significant difference of students’ speaking ability between taught by using World Cafe Strategy and without it at State Senior High School 3 Bagan Sinembah of Rokan Hilir Regency. Then, based on the result of the t-test we can see that by using effect size formula the effect size is 0.71 categorized into Large Effect. It means that the using of World Cafe Strategy has large effect on students’ speaking ability. Keyword: Speaking ability, World Cafe Strategy
