Abstract

Referring to preliminary research, it was found that students of tenth grade at Vocational High School Ibnu Taimiyah got difficulties in their listening comprehension. Most students were difficult to identify the meaning of listening to dialogue from tape recorder. Then, this research was aimed to find out the effect of using bottom up technique on students’ listening comprehension. This research was Experimental Research. The design was quasi-experimental research. Thus, this research used experimental and control groups. The writer formulated the problems that have been answered by using quantitative research. The subject of the research was tenth grade students at Vocational High School Ibnu Taimiyah. The object of this research was effect of Bottom-up technique on students’ listening comprehension. The samples of the research were taken by using cluster random sampling. The data were collected by using test and analyzed using SPSS version 16 and Independent sample t-test. The result of this research was: first, students who participated in bottom up technique class had better listening comprehension than students taught without using bottom up technique. The result could be seen from the mean of post test score’ students in experimental class, 62.93 is higher than control class, 52.24. Then, it could be concluded, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Second, Bottom up technique gave large effect on students’ listening comprehension. From the research finding, it was concluded that teaching listening by using bottom up technique gave large effect on students’ listening comprehension of tenth grade at Vocational High School Ibnu Taimiyah Pekanbaru.
