Abstract
The main focus of this research was to know the students’ speaking ability at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pekanbaru. The researcher formulated the problems into three research questions that would be answered by using experimental research, they were; a) how is the students’ speaking ability at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pekanbaru taught by using silent way method? b) how is the students’ speaking ability at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pekanbaru? c) is there any significant effect between the students’ speaking ability taught by using silent way method? This research aimed at finding out whether there was a significant effect of using silent way method on speaking ability of the students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pekanbaru. It consisted of two variables, those were use of silent way method was as an independent variable or variable X and students’ speaking ability was as a dependent variable or variable Y. The design of this research was quasi- experimental research. In analyzing the data, the writer used statistical analysis which used SPSS 23.0 computer program. By comparing the main score control class (58.60) and experimental class (72.40) it can be stated that Hₐ is accepted and Hₒ is rejected. It means that there is a significant difference between students’ speaking ability taught by using and without using silent way method at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Pekanbaru.
