Abstract

This research is entitled “The Comparison between Individual and Collaborative Writing on Narrative Paragraphs Achievement of the Second Year Students at Man 1 Pekanbaru”. The research had 3 formulations of the problems; how is students’ individual writing on narrative paragraphs achievement, how is students’ collaborative writing on narrative paragraphs achievement, and whether there is or no a significant difference between Individual and Collaborative Writing on Narrative paragraphs Achievement of the Second Year Students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru. The objectives of the research ware to find out the students’ individual writing on narrative paragraphs achievement, to find out students’ collaborative writing on narrative paragraphs achievement, and to find out the difference between Individual and Collaborative Writing on Narrative paragraphs Achievement of The Second Year Students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru In this research, the research design was a comparative research. The population of this research was the natural science of the second year students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru in 2013/2014. It consisted of six classes; the number of population was 163 students. The sample of this research was 54 students taken from two classes (27 students in each class). They were XI C doing individual writing and XI 1 doing collaborative writing. The technique of collecting data used by researcher was achievement test, used to find out the students’ achievements in writing on narrative paragraph. The technique of analyzing data was an independent t-test and it was eased by using SPSS 16 program. Based on the data analysis, the researcher concluded that there is a significant difference between Individual and Collaborative Writing on Narrative paragraphs Achievement of the Second Year Students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru. It was considered from t-observed=6.374 that was higher than t-table either at 5%=2.007 nor 1%=2.674. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. From the research findings, it showed that collaborative writing is better than individual writing and there is a significant difference between Individual and Collaborative Writing on Narrative paragraphs Achievement of The Second Year Students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru.
