Abstract
This research aimed at investigating the use of Double Entry Journal Technique in teaching reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of Islamic senior high school of Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru. it has three formulations of the problems that focus on finding out about (1) the levels of students’ reading comprehension of analytical exposition text taught by using Double Entry Journal Technique (2) the levels of the students’ reading comprehension of analytical exposition text taught without using Double Entry Journal Technique (3) whether there is a significant effect of using Double Entry Journal Technique on students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of Islamic senior high school of Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru. The researcher calculated the formulation of the problem that would be answered by using quantitative research. The type of this research was Quasi-experimental research design. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students at Islamic Senior High School of Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru in academic years 2016-2017. The total number of population was 178 students. The Total sample of this research was 44 students of XI IPA 1 and XI IPA 3. To analyze the data, the researcher adopted Independent Sample t-test by using SPSS version 16. Based on the analysis data, the researcher found that the level of the students taught by DEJ technique was categorized into good level, and the level of the students taught without using DEJ technique was categorized into enough level. In analyzing Independent sample t-test the researcher found that sig (2-tailed) < 0.05 that was 0.026. Thus, the researcher concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In other words, there is a significant effect of using Double Entry Journal Technique on students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School of Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru. Besides, the researcher calculated the effect size of this technique and the result was 0.11 and it was categorized into moderate size.
