Abstract
The problems of this research were found by the writer as follows; low score for students’ reading practice, lack of students’ confidence, students were unable to understand English text, lack of students’ awareness on the importance of reading habit, lack of students’ interest in reading library books, and students were unable to read and understand English text efficiently. This research was conducted to find out; how was the students’ reading English habit, how was the students’ reading comprehension, and the significant correlation between students’ reading English habit and their reading comprehension of the tenth grade at Vocational High School Dwi Sejahtera Pekanbaru. This research was a correlational research. There were two variables used in this research. The first was X variable (Reading English Habit) and the second was Y variable (Reading Comprehension). The subject of this research was the tenth grade students of Vocational High School Dwi Sejahtera Pekanbaru, while the object of this research was reading habit and reading comprehension. The instruments used in this research were questionnaire and multiple choices test. For reading habit, the writer used questionnaire. Then, for reading comprehension, the writer used multiple choices test. The population of the research was 70 students. Then, in taking the sample, the writer used total sampling by taking the whole population as the sample. The scores were calculated by using product moment formula through SPSS 16.00 in analyzing the data. The writer found that r null was 0.860 and the r table was 0.235 at the level of 5% and 0.306 at the level 1%. In other words, r null is higher than r table either at 5% or 1% level (Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted). In conclusion, there is a significant correlation between students’ reading English habit and reading comprehension of the tenth grade at Vocational High School Dwi Sejahtera Pekanbaru which categorizes into strong level of correlation. It was found that Mean for students’ reading English habit score was 62.13 which categorized into enough level, and Mean for students’ reading comprehension score was 62.06 which categorized into enough level.
