Abstract

This research aims to know whether there is significant difference between Natural and Social Science students on their reading comprehension in comprehending analytical text at State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru. There are 367 students of eleven grade as population that are divided into 10 classes, the researcher took 76 students consists of 1 class of Natural Science students and 1 class of Social Science students as samples that are taken randomly. After doing preliminary study by asking the English teacher, the researcher found problems on students reading comprehension, the researcher found out that some of students didn’t pass the passing grade as in Curriculum 2013 that is 75. The design of this research is proactive ex post facto research by using test consists of 35 multiple choice questions as its instrument. In analyzing the data, independent sample Ttest technique is used to measure the difference of students’ reading comprehension means score between Natural and Social Science students. Based on the research finding, it was found that probability level = 0.003 < 0.05. That is concluded that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted means there is a significant difference on students’ reading comprehension of analytical text between Natural and Social Science students at State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru where Natural Science students have a better reading comprehension compared to Social Science students.
