Abstract

The first year students of Junior High School 2 Rambah Samo got difficulties in expressing their idea spontaneously, were unable to comprehend the topics in speaking, could not choose the correct vocabulary to express an idea, and made inaccurate pronunciation. This research aimed at finding out the effect of using Numbered Heads Together technique on students’ speaking ability at the first year of Junior High School 2 Rambah Samo. This quasi-experimental research used two classes; control class and experimental class. The subject of the research was the first year students of Junior High School 2 Rambah Samo. The object was Numbered Heads Together technique and their speaking ability. Cluster random sampling was used to select 52 students out of 133. To analyze the data, the researcher used independent sample t-test by using SPSS 20 version and effect size was formulated by Julie Pallant. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that the result of effect size formula was 0.37. It was categorized into large effect. It means that there is a significant effect on the students speaking ability taught by using Numbered Heads Together technique in their speaking ability at the first year of Junior High School 2 Rambah Samo.
