Abstract

Based on the researcher’s preliminary study, it was found that the students could not write in English well. This problem was caused by some factors. Some of students had lack of vocabulary, therefore they were confused to write in English. They were also difficult to use good grammatical order, and could not write the narrative paragraphs with the clear information. However, the researcher was interested in carrying out the research about this problem. The purpose of this research was to know whether there is a significant effect by using Draw Label Caption Strategy on students’ ability in writing narrative paragraphs at State Junior High School 14 Pekanbaru.The research conducted a research at State Junior High School 14 Pekanbaru. The subject was the second grade students of State Junior High School 14 Pekanbaru and the object of this research was the effect of using Draw Label Caption Strategy on students’ ability in writing narrative paragraphs. The design of this research was a Quasi-Experimental Research. The Population of this research was all of the second grade students. The total number of population was 272 students. The researcher used cluster sampling technique by taking only two classes as sample; VIII 2 consisted of 34 students as an experimental class and VIII 1 consisted of 34 students as control class. Finally, the number of the samples from two classes was 68 students. To analyze the data, the researcher used independent sample t-test formula by using software SPSS 17.After analyzing the data, the researcherfound that tobtained= 11.475 with df= 66. In tobtain= 11.475 is bigger than ttable = 1.668 (at significance level of 5%) and ttable = 2.384 (at significance level of 1%); 1.668≤.11.475≥2.384. It means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In conclusion, there is a significant effect of using Draw Label Captionstrategy on students’ ability inwriting narrative paragraph at State Junior High School 14 Pekanbaru.
