Abstract

The main focus of this research is to investigatewhether there wasa significant effect of using Explicit Instruction Strategy on students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh grade at Senior High School Budi Dharma Dumai. The writer formulated the problems into three research questions that would be answered by using quantitativeresearch, that is; 1) How is students’ reading comprehension taught by using explicit instruction strategy on spoof text of the eleventh grade at senior high school Budi Dharma Dumai?, and 2)How is students’ reading comprehension without taught by using explicit instruction strategy on spoof text of the eleventh grade at senior high school Budi Dharma Dumai?, and 3) Is there any significance difference between using and without using explicit instruction toward students’ reading comprehension on spoof text of the eleventh grade at senior high school Budi Dharma Dumai. This research had three variables,Explicit Instruction Strategy as an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension as a dependent variable.This research was a quasi-experimental research.The writer selected two classes from total five classes by using cluster random sampling technique: experimental and control class. There were 52 students as sample out of 124 students. In collecting the data, the writer used multiple choicetest. In analyzing the data, the writerusedindependent sample t-test formula calculatedby using SPSS 17 version. Based on the analysis of t-test Formula, the sig. value is 0.013. It could be stated that 0.013<0.05. The writer concluded that there is significant difference between using and without using explicit instruction toward students’ reading comprehension on spoof text of the eleventh grade at senior high school Budi Dharma Dumai Keywords:Explicit Instruction Strategy, Reading Comprehension, Spoof Text.
