Abstract
This study investigated students’ attitudes toward learning English at the eighth grade of state junior high school 14 Pekanbaru. The aim of this study was to find out positive and negative attitudes toward learning English and factors influencing positive and negative attitudes at the eight grade of state junior high school 14 Pekanbaru. This study used mix method as the research. 33 participants were asked to answer the questionnaire and 3 students were choosen to be interviewed to validate the responses toward the questionnaire given. This research shows that the students have positive attitude towards English learning with the mean score of general attitude is 3.48 and regarding to the factors influencing students’ attitudes toward learning English, there are two factors influencing students’ positive and negative attitudes toward learning English at the eighth grade of State Junior High School 14 Pekanbaru. They are: teacher’s role and parent’s role. Keywords: Attitudes and Learning English Language
