Abstract
This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English especially in reading descriptive text. Based on the fact, the students had problems in comprehending descriptive text. The problems were; some of the students are not able to identifythe gistof what they read, some of the students are not able to identifyspecific information in reading material, some ofthe students are not able to catch the points clearly what they have read, and some of the students are not able to retell what they have read in both spoken and written forms. So, the researcher was interested in carrying out the research about these problems. In this case, the researcher provides Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness (CAR) Principles to help students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text.The objectives of the research wereto find out the students’ reading Comprehension in descriptive text taught by usingCompetence, Autonomy, and Relatedness (CAR) Principles, to find out the students’ reading comprehension in descriptivetext taught without usingThe Effect of Using Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness (CAR) Principles, and to find out whether there is or no a significant effect of using Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness (CAR) Principles on students’ reading Comprehension in descriptive text of the seventh grade students at Islamic Junior High School of Al Ihsan Boarding School inKampar Regency.In this research, the research design was a quasi-experimental research. The population of this research was the seventh grade students at Islamic Junior High School of Al Ihsan Boarding School inKampar Regencyin 2015/2016.It consisted of 4 classes; the number of population was 104 students. Because of the number of population was big, the writer used clustering random sampling by taking two classes for sample; VIIUhud consisted of 27 students as experimental class and VII Khandaq consisted 25 students as control class. So the total number of the sample was 52 students. To analyze the data, the writer adopted independent sample T-test by using SPSS16 software.Finally, based on the data analysis, the writer concluded that there was asignificant effect of using The Effect of Using Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness (CAR) Principles on students’ reading Comprehension of the seventh grade students at Islamic Junior High School of Al Ihsan Boarding School inKampar Regency, where tobtained= 4.076 was higher than t-table either at 5%=2.008 nor 1%=2.677. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Keyword : The Effect Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness (CAR) Principles Reading Comprehension
