Abstract

This research is entitled “An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Reading Recount Text ofthe eighthgradestudent at State Junior High School 1 Tambang”. The objective of the research is to identify the students’ difficulties in reading recount text at the eight grade of State Junior High School 1 Tambang. In this research, the type of research used was descriptive quantitative research. The researcher used purposive sampling technique to take the sample, there were 20 students as sample from 124 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire. The questionnaire was used in order to find out the students’ difficulties in reading recount text at the eight grade of State Junior High School 1 Tambang. In analyzing the data, the researcher found that the total number of frequency of all difficulties in reading recount text was 402. The highest rate of all difficulties was caused by the students who cannot do self-correction in reading recount text,which the total number of difficulties was 131 or 32.6% and the lowest rate of the difficulties was caused by the students who have poor relationship with the teacher in reading recount text,which the total number of difficulties was 64 or 15.9%. and also, the researcher found that the level of students’ difficulties in reading recount text was fifty percent (50%) in standard category with 10 respondents. So, the researcher concluded that the students at SMP N 1 Tambang still had difficulties in reading recount text caused by the students who cannot do self-correction.
