Abstract

According to preliminary research, it was found that the seventh grade students at Junior High School of 1 Seberida got difficulties on their writing procedure text ability such as unable to develop their ideas, unable to write the structure organization, unable to choose the appropriate words, some students have lack of vocabulary, and unable to write in suitable tense so that this research aimed at finding out the effect of using Mind Mapping technique in improving students’ ability in writing procedure text at the seventh grade at Junior High School of 1 Seberida. This research was a quasi-experimental research. Therefore, this research used two groups; control group and experimental group. The subject of the research was the seventh grade students at Junior High School of 1 Seberida. The object of this research was Mind Mapping technique and their writing ability on procedure text. Sample of this research used cluster random sampling. There were 60 students as sample from 239 students. To analyze the data, the writer used independent sample ttest by using SPSS 22 version and effect size formula by Julie Pallant. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that the result of effect size formula was 0.73. It was categorized into large effect. It means that there was a significant effect on their writing procedure text ability at the seventh grade of Junior High School 1 Seberida.
