Abstract

This research was conducted based on students’ problem in students’ memorizing vocabulary of recount texts, say for instance, some of the students were difficult to able encountering new words, differentiate noun, verb, adverb, and adjectives, find the meaning of words, using the word in the text of recount texts. Therefore, this research was aimed 1) to investigate students’ memorizing vocabulary of recount texts taught before using Word Card Strategy, 2)to investigate the students’ memorizing vocabulary of recount texts taught after using Word Card Strategy, 3 )to investigate whether there was significant effect on students’ memorizing vocabulary of recount texts taught before and after using the Word Card Strategy of the second year at State Junior High School 4 Pekanbaru. In this pre experimental research, the researcher applied cluster random sampling as the technique used. Overall population of the research was 371 students. The classes chosen were VIII.9 as the experimental class consisted of 36 students, by doing the pre-test and post-test for experimental class in gaining the result of this research. The result of data analysis showed that there is a significant effect on students’ memorizing vocabulary of recount texts taught before and by after using the Word Card Strategy, in which the Sig (2-tailed )0.000 had less value than 0.05. Thus, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Furthermore, there is a significant effect of using the Word Card strategy on the students’ memorizing vocabulary of recount texts of the second year at State Junior High School 4 Pekanbaru, in which the result of eta squared 0.56.
