Abstract

This research was Experimental Research. The design was quasiexperimental research. The main focus of this research was to find out students’ ability in writing narrative taught by using picture series, and students’ ability in writing narrative text taught without using picture series, and to find out whether or not there was any significant effect of using picture series on the second year students’ ability in writing narrative text. The researcher formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. The subject of the research was the second year students of MAN Kuok Kampar Regency. The object of this research was picture series and their writing ability on narrative text. The researcher took two classes: experimental and control. Experiment class was with 20 students, and control class was with also 20 students. The data were collected by using writing test that was obtained by using SPSS version 16. The result of this research was: first, Ho was accepted (Ho > accepted) , second Ho was rejected (Ho < rejected) , third, large effect. From the research finding it can be concluded that teaching writing by using picture series gave large effect on writing ability of the students at MAN Kuok Kampar Regency.
