Abstract

Based on curriculum 2013 (K13). Speaking is one of the English language skills that must be taught and learned in Islamic Senior High School Hidayatullah Kuala Cenaku Indragiri Hulu is a school which use 2013 curriculum n teaching and learning process. After doing observation in this school, the researcher found that some of the students not speak English fluently, some of the students is being afraid of making mistake to express their idea, some of the students not feel confident to talk in front of the class and some of the students are not interested to follow the learning activity because of the classroom environment which is not supported. In this case, the teacher was expected to find a good method in other to give a good contribution to increase students’ English speaking skill by applying suggestopedia method as a furthermore of previous method used by teacher. This research aimed at finding out whether there were was a significant difference by using and without using suggestopedia method in teaching English speaking skill for the tenth grade students at Islamic Senior High School Hidayatullah Kuala Cenaku Indragiri Hulu. It consisted of two variables, those were the use of suggestopedia method was as an independent variable or variable X and students’ speaking skill was as a dependent variable or variable Y. The design of this research was quasi experimental research. In analyzing the data, the researcher used statistical analysis which used SPSS 19.0 computer program. It was obtained null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It could be stated that 63.3 < 83.0. In conclusion, there is a significant difference between using and without using Suggestopedia method in teaching English speaking skill for the tenth grade students at Islamic Senior High School Hidayatullah Kuala Cenaku.
