Abstract

The main focus of this research is to investigate whether there was a significant effect of using Summarizing Strategy Toward Students’ Reading Comprehension of Hortatory Exposition Text at the State of Senior High School 1 Rimba Melintang. This research had two variables, Summarizing Strategy as an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension as a dependent variable. This research was a quasi-experimental research. The researcher selected two classes from total 4 classes by using cluster random sampling technique: experimental and control class. There were 56 students as sample out of 114 students. In analyzing the data, the researcher used independent sample ttest formula calculated by using SPSS 16 version continued by using eta square formula. It can be seen that the sig. value is 0.000. It can be stated that 0.000 < 0.05. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Then, the effect size is 0.21 categorized into large level. The researcher concluded that there was a significant effect of using Summarizing Strategy in Teaching students’ reading comprehension of Hortatory Exposition text at the State of Senior High School 1 Rimba Melintang.
