Abstract

The main objective of this study was to investigate students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text with and without taught by using Buddy Reading Strategy on students’ reading comprehension at As-Shofa Islamic Junior High School Pekanbaru. The study used quasi experimental research. The total population of this study was 164 students which there were 6 classes. Meanwhile, the sample of this study was 48 students. Which VII. 5 as experimental group while VII. 1 as control group. This study was conducted from March until April 2017. It was eight meetings. Buddy reading strategy was used on experimental class while the control group were taught by another strategy. Data of this study were collected from pre test and post test. The type of test was multiple choice tests that consist of 20 items. The pre test was given before the treatment to the experimental group and control group. The post test was given after the treatment in experimental and control group. The data were analyzed by using Kolmogorov smirnov technique with the help of using SPSS version 16. Based on data analysis, it was found that the mean of post test score of experimental group (82.50) and the mean of post test score of control group (69.17). It means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Key words: Buddy Reading Strategy, Students’ Reading Comprehension
