Abstract

This research is entitled “The correlation between students’ parts of speech and their ability in writing narrative text of the first year at state senior high school 12 pekanbaru”. the research had 3 formulations of the problems; How is students parts of speech, how is students’ writing narrative text ability, is there any significant correlation between students’ parts of speech and their ability of the first year at state Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru. The objectives of the research were to find out students’ writing narrative text and to find out the correlation between students’ parts of speech and their ability in writing narrative text of the first year at state senior high school 12 Pekanbaru. In this research, the research design was a correlation research. The population of this research was first years students at Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru in 2016/2017 academic year. It consisted of first classes; the number of population was 420 students. The sample of this research was 67 students taken from two classes, 35 students in X social 1 and 32 and 35 students in X social 2. They were X social 1 and X social 2 two test (multiple choice for parts of speech and writing text for writing narrative text). The technique of analyzing data was Pearson Product Moment and it was eased by using SPSS 17 program. Based on the data analysis, the writer concluded that there is a correlation between student’ parts of speech and their ability in writing narrative text of the first year at state senior high school 12 Pekanbaru. It was considered from Sig.(2- tailed) = 0.00 that was lower than α (0.05). It means that Ha was a accepted and H0 was rejected. From the research findings, it showed that there was a correlation between students’ parts of speech and their ability in writing narrative text of the first year at state Senior High School12 Pekanbaru.
