Abstract
Based on researcher’s observation in MAN 2 Bengkalis, the students had diifficulty in mastering some of vocabulary or they have difficulty in memorizing it. The students difficulties were reflected from their achievement in mastering the vocabulary. The score of English didn’t achieve the Minimum Criteria Achievement (MCA), only 7 students achieve a very good level, 5 students achieve a good level, and 32 students achieve poor level. Therefore this research is aimed to find out male student’s vocabulary mastery in descriptive text at Islamic Senior High School 2 Bengkalis, to know female student’s vocabulary mastery in descriptive text at Islamic Senior High School 2 Bengkalis, and to know the difference of vocabulary mastery in descriptive text between male and female student’s at Islamic Senior High School 2 Bengkalis. This is a comparative research. In order to collect the data, the researcher used a multiple choice test. The population of this research is 44, and the researcher took all the population as a sample. By using SPSS 23 in analyzing the data, the researcher found the male students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text at the tenth grade of Islamic Senior High School 2 Bengkalis is categorized into ‘Less’ level at score 47.The female students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text at the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School 2 Bengkalis is categorized into ‘Less’ level at score 57. There is a significant difference between Male and Female students’ vocabulary mastery in descriptive text at the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School 2 Bengkalis. Therefore it is better for the teacher to pay attention to the both gender of the students; male and female, because they have different intelligence and different way in receiving the knowledge from the teacher, The teachers should give more motivation to male students related to vocabulary mastery and than about male and female students should be able to improve their vocabulary mastery by reading English book more.
