Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out whether there was significant difference of listening comprehension before and after being taught by using Audio Segment technique for experimental class and without using Audio Segment technique for control class of the Second Grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru and to obtain the significant effect of using Audio Segment technique toward students’ listening comprehension. The subject of this research was the second grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru. The object of this research was the effect of using Audio Segment. The type of the research was a quasi experimental research. The researcher used non equivalent control group design. The population of this research was all of the second grade students in the academic 2013/2014. They consisted of 9 classes (279 students). The researcher took two classes as sample that consisted of 50 students. The first class was XI Science 1 as experimental class and the second class was XI Science 2 as control class. The technique of collecting data was a test, which consisted of pre-test and post-test. The technique of data analysis used Independent Sample T-test formula. The research findings showed that the improvement could be seen from the score of test. The result was analyzed by using SPSS 16. The result found that there was no significant difference of students’ listening comprehension before being taught by using Audio Segment for experimental class and without using Audio Segment for control class. The total score of t-test was 1.936 compared with t-table with significance at level 5% and 1% (2.01>1.936<2.68). Then, there was significant difference of students listening comprehension after being taught by using Audio Segment for experimental class and without using Audio Segment for control class. The total score of t-test was 9.133 compared with t-table with significance at level 5% and 1% (2.01<9.133>2.68). Therefore, it could be concluded that there was significant effect of using Audio Segment toward listening comprehension of the Second Grade Students at SMA Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru. The result of t-test was 2.06<6.465>2.80 and the percentage of the significant effect was 41.60%.
