Abstract

Based on the writer’s observation, it was found that most of the students still had low ability in reading comprehension. And the major problem faced by them was finding difficulties in comprehending text, especially narrative text. So, the writer was interested in carrying out the research about this problem. The objectives of the research are to find out the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text that taught by using Story Gloves Strategy, to find out the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text taught without using Story Gloves strategy and to find out whether there is a significant effect of using Story Gloves strategy towards students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. The research was conducted at SMAN 2 Mandau. The subject was the first grade students of SMAN 2 Mandau, and the object of this research was the effect of using Story Gloves Strategy towards Students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. The design of this research was a Quasi Experimental design. By non equivalent control group. The writer used two classes as sample. Consisting of 36 students for each class.The writer gave pre-test to experiment and control class. Then, the writer gave treatment to experimental class. Finally, the writer gave post-test to both classes in order to know the effectiveness of Story Gloves strategy applied by the writer. The technique of collecting data was the test. The technique of analyzing data, the writer adopted independent sample t-test formula by using software SPSS V.16. In the analyzing data, by using t-test in SPSS 16.0 version, the result was found that significance was 0.008, which was lower than 0.05. It means Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It means that, there was a significant effect of using Story Gloves strategy towards reading comprehension of the first grade students at SMAN 2 Mandau, Duri. In conclusion, teaching reading by implementing Story Gloves strategy of the first grade students at SMAN 2 Mandau, Duri is better than by using conventional strategy
