Abstract

This research was carried out based on a correlational research design. The data were collected through motivation questionnaire, attitude questionnaire, and reading comprehension test. The research population was two classes of the seventh-semester students that consisted of 40 students. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and the linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Results of correlation analysis showed that the p-value was greater than alpha (p > α = 0.103 > 0.05 ). The decision can be made that there was no significant influence between the students’ motivation and their reading comprehension. Besides, the result of the students’ attitude showed that p > α = 0.276 > 0.05. It indicated that there was no significant influence between the students’ attitude and their reading comprehension. The regression analysis output showed that p of motivation was 0.263 and p of attitude was 0.042. It means, p > α = 0.263 > 0.05 > 0.042. Based on the result of linear regression analysis, only the students’ attitude had an influence on their reading comprehension. Thus, it can be inferred that there was a significant influence of the students’ motivation and attitude toward their reading comprehension. The finding also showed that the influence was weak because there were some psychological factors such as home environment, guidance and support from parents, school facilities, and the use of various teaching methods in the learning process.
