Abstract
ABSTRACT Vini Juniarli, (2019): The Correlation between Socioeconomic Status and Learning Styles among the Eighth Grade Students of MTsN 1 Pekanbaru. The aim of this research was to examine the correlation between socioeconomic status and perceptual learning style preferences among the eighth grade students of MTsN 1 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was correlational research which focused on two variables. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of MTsN 1 Pekanbaru. The total number of population was 319 students. To select the sample, the researcher used randomsampling techniques. There were 50 students as the sample. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire about students socioeconomic status and students perceptual learning style preferences in English learning. The data was analyzed by using kendall correlation and SPSS 23. The result of the data analysis showed that students socioeconomic statuswas categorized into middle level. The auditory, kinesthetic and individual learning styles were the most preferred by the students. This research also showed that there is strong significant correlation between students’ socioeconomic status and their learning style at the eighth grade of MTsN 1 Pekanbaru.
