Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of Shared Inquiry method has a positive influence on eighth-grade students’ reading comprehension and motivation at MTs PONPES Syafa’aturrasul Teluk Kuantan. Based on preliminary observation at the school, it was found that the students faced different kinds of difficulties in reading descriptive text and their motivation. The research design was a quasi-experimental design. The population was all students at the eighth grade at the school. The sample consisted of 20 students from VIII.D as participants of experimental group and 20 students from VIII.A as participants of control group. To analyze the data, paired-samples t-test and independent t-test were calculated by using SPSS statistics. The data analysis showed that there was a significant effect of Shared Inquiry method treatments on students’ reading comprehension in the experimental class. T-test result was 12.346; its standard deviation was 19, as compared to the significance value. If the probability value was > 0.05, the null hypothesis (Ho)was rejected. If the probability value was < 0.05, the alternative hypothesis (Ha )was accepted. Since the significance value was 0.000 < 0.05, thus, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. 2. There was a significant effect of Shared Inquiry method treatments on students’ motivation in the experimental class. T-test result was 13.667; its standard deviation was 19, as compared to the significance value. If the probability was > 0.05, the null hypothesis (Ho)was rejected. If the probability was < 0.05, the alternative hypothesis (Ha )was accepted. Since the significance value was 0.000 < 0.05, thus, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.
