Abstract
This research was conducted based on the problems, faced by the students in learning English especially in reading narrative text. The writer found that the students still had difficulties in comprehending the reading text especially in narrative text. This research aimed at finding out if there is a significant difference between students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught without using Group Summarizing Strategy and taught by using it. In this case, the writer provided Group Summarizing Strategy to help students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. This research was an experimental research, which equipped test as the technique of collecting data. Finally, based on the research findings, the writer concluded that there is a significant difference between students’ reading comprehension taught by using and without using Group Summarizing Strategy. The writer found that sig (2 tailed) was 0.000 less than 0.05. It means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In other words, there is a significant difference between students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught without and by using Group Summarizing Strategy at second grade of State Junior High School 14 Hangtuah Pekanbaru.
