Abstract
Speaking is an interactive process that involves the construction of meaning which is used to communicate and exchange information in which there is a skill to create a conversation. The differences in students' speaking ability are influenced by variety of factors such as their personality traits and confidence. This study aimed to investigate the influence of student's personality traits and self-confidence on their speaking ability. This research was a correlational research conducted at Islamic Senior High School Al-Qasimiyah Sorek Satu Pelalawan. Respondents of this study were 36 randomly selected students from 72 third grade students of Islamic Senior High School. The data required in this study were obtained by using standardized questionnaires, Personality Traits and SelfConfidence Questionnaires, and a speaking test. The findings of this study indicated that personality traits and self-confidence had a significant influence on students' speaking ability from singular and plural relationships as well. So, it can be concluded that the more extroverted and the higher the level of students' selfconfidence are, the better speaking ability they have.
