Abstract
This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English, especially in reading narrative text. Based on the preliminary research, the students had problems to comprehend the narrativetext. There is indication that it is important to carry out the research about these problems. In this case, the writer provided Preview, Brainstorm, Predict (PBP) Strategy to improve the students’ reading comprehension ofnarrative. This strategy could be used to activate background knowledge and benefit students when the reading is difficult.The objectives of the research were to find out the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught by usingPreview, Brainstorm, Predict (PBP) Strategy and students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught without using this strategy and to find out whether there is a significant effect of using Preview, Brainstorm, Predict (PBP) Strategy on Students’ reading comprehension of narrative textat the tenth gradeofSMKNegeriPertanianTerpaduRiau. The design of this research was a quasi-experimental design. In collecting the data, the writer used both pre- and post- test to collect the data of the reading comprehension of narrative text of the first year students at SMKNegeriPertanianTerpaduRiau.The population of this research was the all tenth grades that consisted of 315 students. Considering that population was large, the writer only took two classes be sample; X.ATP 3 consisted of 32 students as an experimental class, and X. ATP 2consisted 31 students as a control class.So, the number of sample from two classeswas63 students. In analyzing the data, the writer used an independent sample t-test. By using SPSS 22.0 and to was compared with ttable considering df. Finally, based on the analysis of T-test formula, the writer concluded that there is a significant effect of using Preview, Brainstorm, Predict (PBP) Strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at SMK NegeriPertanianTerpaduProvinsi Riau, where tobtained= 4.146 is higher than t-table either at 5%=2.00 nor 1%=2.65. It means that Hais accepted and Hois rejected. Kata Kunci: Reading Comprehension, Preview, Brainstorm, Predict (PBP) Strategy
