Abstract

This research was a quasi-experimental research with non-equivalent group design. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of using anticipation-reaction guide strategy on students’ reading comprehension. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of Islamic Junior High School Syahruddiniyah Sungai Pagar Kampar which consisted of six classes with the total population was 190 students. The respondents of this research were 60 students taken by using Cluster Random Sampling technique. In collecting the data, tests which consisted of pretest and posttest were applied. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) and calculated by using SPSS 22.0 program version in order to find out whether there was a effect of using anticipation-reaction guide strategy on students’ reading comprehension. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the students’ reading comprehension in control group was categorized enough with mean percentage 55.17%, meanwhile, the students’ reading comprehension in experimental class was categorized good with the mean percentage 69.83% and there was a significant effect of using anticipation-reaction guide strategy on students’ reading comprehension with the power of effect was 0.471 categorized as large. Therefore, it was concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there was a significant effect of using anticipation-reaction guide strategy on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Islamic Junior High School Syahruddiniyah Sungai Pagar of Kampar Regency.
