Abstract

The availabilityof feed ingredients currentlyin creasingly limited, becauseincreasinglylimitedland for forage planting.Sebagai upayato overcome itcan bedone by finding alternative feedssuch as plantation waste.Palm frondand cornhuskis a by-product waste from the plantation industrywhich can be used as asubstitute for grass.But the two ingredients have low nutritional value. So, itneeds to be processed firstto improve its quality,make it easy to storeand can bestored for a relatively long time in the form of silage and wafers.This researchaims to know thenutritional quality of wafer made fromoil palm frond silageswhich is combined with cornhuskusingdifferent composition.This research hasbeen carried out from January to March 2018at the Laboratory of Agrostology,FeedIndustry and Soil Scienceand Laboratoryof Nutrition and Chemistry,Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of StateIslamic University ofSultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The research method uses a randomized completedesign(RAL)consisting of5treatments and3replications. Parametersobservedincludedphysical quality of silage which includescolour, flavors, texture andthepresence of fungiand the quality of wafer nutrition which includesdry ingredients(BK%),crude protein(PK%)andcrude fiber(SK%).The research results showedthatthewafersmade fromoil palm frond silages and corn huskgave highlysignificant effect(P<0,01)against crude protein content,butdid not givesignificant effect(P>0,05)againstcontent of dry ingredients and crude fiber.Thebest treatment isR2with composition50%palm fronds50%cornhusk,has acrude protein content10,42%.Key words:Corn husk, nutritional quality, palm fronds, silage, wafer.
