The purpose of this study were to identify students’ reading interest and students’ writing ability in descriptive text at tenth grade of State Senior High School 1 Kampar. This research was correlational research. It was conducted to find out the correlation between students’ reading interest and their writing ability at tenth grade of State Senior High School 1 Kampar. In accordance with the symptoms, the writer has seen some problems that should be discussed and overcome, those are: some of the students read in their spare time but they still faced difficulties to use appropriate vocabulary in writing, some other students have a willingness to read but they still faced difficulties to express ideas in writing, and some of the students read continuously but they still faced difficulties in organizing ideas and sentences. The specific objective of this research was to find out whether there is or no significant correlation between students’ reading interest and their writing ability. The population of this research was the tenth grade students which consisted of 8 classes. The total population of this research was 288 students. Because the population was too large, so the reasearcher ufsed simple random sampling technique to take the sample. Thus, the researcher took 44 students as the sample of this research. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire to measure students’ reading interest and writing test to measure the students’ writing ability. The researcher analyzed the data by using Pearson Product Moment formula of SPSS Version 16.0. Based on the results, it was found that the mean score of students’ reading interest was 67.75 (good level), while their writing ability was 65.66 (sufficient level). In terms of the correlation between students’ reading interest and their writing ability, the researcher found that sig. (2-tailed) < α = 0.000 < 0.005. Thus, the researcher concluded that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Moreover, the researcher found that the value of correlation coefficient (r) was 0.850 which indicated that there was a very strong positive correlation between the two variables. Based on the research findings, it could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ reading interest and their writing ability at tenth grade of State Senior High School 1 Kampar.
