Abstract
This study aimed at determining students’ linguistic intelligence, determining students’ reading comprehension, and determining whether there was or not significant correlation between linguistic intelligence and reading comprehension at Islamic Junior High School Darul Quran Tarai Bangun Kampar Regency. After doing the observation in Islamic Junior High School Darul Quran Tarai Bangun Kampar Regency, the writer found and identified some problems, included: some of the students get difficulties to find the main idea, and to obtain specific information from the text, some of the students have different perception in answering the question, some of the students feel bored in reading activity and disturb their friends, when answering the question, some of the students only search the similar word of the text as the correct answer, while few of the students pretend to cheat her/his friend’s answer. The type of this research was a correlational research design. Questionnaire was used to determine the linguistic intelligence and test was used to determine the reading comprehension. The total population of this research was 55 students from 2 classes. Due to the number of population which was less than 100 students, the writer took all the population as the sample of this research. In analyzing the data, the writer used pearson product moment correlation cooficient, the result of the analysis of this research was 0.676 higher than ttable at level 5 % (0.266) and at level 1% (0.345). It means that Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected. In other words, there is a significant correlation between linguistic intelligence and reading comprehension at Islamic Junior High School Darul Quran Tarai Bangun Kampar Regency. Thus, it can be concluded that the higher students’ linguistic intelligence is, the higher students’ reading comprehension will be.
