Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English especially in reading recount and narrative text. Based on the preliminary observation, the researcher found that the students still had difficulties in comprehending the reading text. In this case, the researcher provided Text to Self, to Text, to World Strategy to help students’ reading comprehension in recount and narrative text. While, Text to Self, to Text, to World Strategy is a reading strategy while they are reading a text, the readers make connections with their background knowledge to their own personal experience, knowledge, opinions, and emotions. This research had two formulations of the problem that whether do students taught by Text to Self, to Text, to World Strategy have better score than without got treatment and whether there is any significant effect on students’ reading comprehension of recount and narrative text. In this research, the research design was an experimental research. The design of this research was quasi-experimental design. The sample of the research was the eighth grade students of Junior High School 9 Pekanbaru in academic year 2016/2017. The sample classes were 64 taken from two classes (32 students in each class). The data were collected by using multiple choice tests. The technique of analyzing data was an independent sample t-test and it was eased by using SPSS 17.0 program. Finally, based on the research findings, the researcher found that the class being taught by using Text to Self, to Text, to World Strategy were scores (64.87> 53.88) and the result of T-test Sig. (2 -tailed) that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. So, the researcher concluded that the students’ reading comprehension had better score and there was a significance effect to improved students’ reading comprehension on recount and narrative text at Junior High School 9 Pekanbaru.
