Abstract

Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation and information from the English teacher at State Junior High School 2 Kampar, it was found that some of the eighth grade students had problems in reading comprehension, especially in narrative text. They could not reach the passing grade (KKM). The main focus of this research was to find out whether there was a significant difference between using and without using Dictogloss technique on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at State Junior High School 2 Kampar. The writer formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. This research had two variables Using Dictogloss technique as an independent variable and students’ reading comprehension as a dependent variable. The type of research was a Quasi-experimental research. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students at State Junior High School 2 Kampar. The writer took two groups: experimental and control group. There were 54 students as sample from 80 students at State Junior High School 2 Kampar . In collecting the data, the researcher used multiple choice test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used an independent t-test formula by using SPSS 16 version. Based on the analysis of data, the result showed that the score of t-test was 3.861, which was greater than t-table at the 5% level of significance (2.01), and at 1% level of significance (2.68). It can be stated that 2.01 < 3.861 > 2.68. It could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using Dictogloss technique on students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at State Junior High School 2 Kampar. In other words, null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
