Abstract
This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English especially in reading comprehension. Based on the fact, the students had problems and difficulties in comprehending their English reading texts. The problems were: some of the students got difficulties to identify topic sentence, they were not able to find out main idea, they did not understand if self efficacy would affect their reading comprehension, they were not confidence enough to read a text with the correct pronunciation, etc. So, the researcher was interested in carrying out the research about these problems. The objectives of the research were to find out the correlation between self-efficacy and reading comprehension of second grade students at SMA N 1 Moro Karimun Regency. This research had three major research questions; 1. To what extent is the students’ self efficacy, 2. How is the students’ reading comprehension, 3. Is there any significant correlation between self-efficacy and reading comprehension of second grade students at SMA N 1 Moro Karimun Regency. From the data analysis, it was found that the students’ self efficacy was categorized into “good category.” While the students’ reading comprehension was categorized into “enough category.” The data analysis showed that “r” serial correlation with the df = 47 at 5% level of significant was 0.288 and at 1% level of significant was 0.372. It was gotten that “r” ser 0.374 was higher than “r” table either at 5% or 1% level of significance (0.288<0.374>0.372). The writer concluded that Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted while Ho (null hypothesis) was rejected. It means that there is significant correlation between self-efficacy and reading comprehension of second grade students at SMA N 1 Moro Karimun Regency.
