Abstract

This research is entitled “The Effect of Using Paragraph Puzzle toward Writing Ability of Recount Paragraphs of the Second Year Students at State Junior High School 4 Tambang”. The background of the problem of this research was students’ writing ability on recount paragraphs. They were not able to choose appropriate vocabulary, to use correct grammatical order, to arrange the sentences to be a good paragraph. The objectives of the research were to find out students’ writing ability of recount paragraphs taught without using paragraph puzzle, to find out students’ writing ability of recount paragraphs taught by using paragraph puzzle, and to find out whether there was a significant effect of using paragraph puzzle toward writing ability of recount paragraphs of the second year students at State Junior High School 4 Tambang. In this research, the type of the research was quasi experimental research. The writer took two groups pretest-posttest design. The writer used two classes as samples that consisted of 33 students for both of classes. Before giving the treatment, the students were given pre-test and post-test were given after the treatment. The technique of collecting data was the test. The test was used in order to find out the students’ ability in writing essay text at the second year of State Junior High School 4 Tambang. The technique of data analysis was independent sample t-test and paired sample t-tets. It was eased by using SPSS 16 version program. Based on the data analysis, the writer concluded that there is a significant effect of using paragraph puzzle toward writing ability of recount paragraphs of the second year students at State Junior High School 4 Tambang. It was considered from tobtained =6.422 was higher that t-table either at 5%=2.00 nor 1%=2.65. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected
