Abstract

g Visualization strategy helps students develop ideas and increase their thinking in writing a paragraph. This strategy gives chance to the students to think, so they can write a paragraph appropriately with stages of writing process clearly. Based on the preliminary research at the first year students of Islamic Boarding Senior High School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang, the writer found that the students’ writing ability was still low. Thus, the writer was interested in carrying out this research. The subject of this research was the first year students at Islamic Boarding Senior High School Daarun Nahdhah Thawalib Bangkinang in 2013/2014 academic year. The objects of this research were the use of visualization strategy to and students’ writing ability. The technique of colleting data used in this research was written test. There were two variables operated in this research: variable X was visualization strategy, and variable Y was students’ writing ability. The data were analyzed by using SPSS computer program with Independent Sample T-test and Paired Samples Test. Based on the data analysis, the total post-test score of the experimental class was 1464 and the mean score was 61, while the total post-test score of control class was 1070 and the mean score was 44.58. Therefore, the students’ writing ability at the experimental class was higher than the students at the control class. After analyzing the data by using SPSS computer program, it was found that tobtained was 7.613, which was greater that ttable at 5% (2.01) and 1% (2.68) level of significance. It can be concluded that 2.01 < 7.613 > 2.68. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In conclusion, there is significant effect of using visualization toward students’ writing ability on descriptive paragraph of the first year students at Islamic Boarding Senior high School Daarun Nahdhah thawalib Bangkinang.
