Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the influence of students’ grammar and vocabulary mastery toward their writing ability. The research design was a correlation research. The population was the second level student majoring in Syariah Banking of D3 Program of the language development center of UIN SUSKA Riau in academic year 2016/2017. In collecting the data, multiple choice test was used as instruments. In analyzing the data result of the research, Pearson product moment (SPSS 20)was used. The first finding of the research indicated that there was no a positive relationship between grammar mastery and writing ability. The second finding indicated that there was no a positive relationship between vocabulary mastery and writing ability. The last finding of the research indicated that there was no a positive influence between grammar and vocabulary mastery toward writing ability and there was influence between grammar mastery and vocabulary mastery.
