Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to find out the influence of students’ learning style and learning language strategy on the students’ English achievement of class 2 students at SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir. This studywas a correlation study consisting of two independent variables; namely, learning styles and language learning strategies, and one dependent variable which was student achievement in English. The participants in this study were 72 students from class 2 at SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir. The instruments used in this study were questionnaires and tests. SPSSwas used to analyze the result of research. The result obtained from the highest learning style was group learning style which was20,01, the lowest was individual learning style of 18,38 and highest result from language learning style wasCognitive strategy of average 38,75, and the lowest wasCompensation strategy of average16,92. After analyzing the data using multiple regression, it was found that the influence of learning style and language learning strategy on English achievement, which is p = 0.000 <0.05, therefore alternative hypothesis accepted.
