Abstract

The purpose of this research was to discover the effect of using Plus Minus Strategy on the students’ speaking and motivation of class XI at SMAN 11 Pekanbaru. The research design was a Quasi-Experimental research with pretest and posttest non-equivalent control group design. Samples of this research were the students of class XI IPA SMAN 11 Pekanbaru which consisted of 31 students of the experimental class (XI IPA 2) and 31 students of the control class (XI IPA). The data were collected by using speaking test and questioner. Plus Minus Interesting Strategy was used for this research. The results of this study indicated that there was a significant effect on the implementation of Plus Minus Interesting Strategy on students' speaking ability and motivation. In conclusion, Plus Minus Interesting Strategy and student motivation can be applied in learning students' speaking ability at SMAN 11 Pekanbaru.
