Abstract

Based on researcher’s preliminary observation at State Senior High School 1 Kampar, the researcher found that some of the students of second year still had the problems in reading comprehension, especially in analytical exposition texts the researcher interpreted the problems, some of the students were not able to identify the main idea, generic structure, communicative purpose, language feature in reading text and had lack of vocabulary. To solve the problems above, the researcher wants to apply a strategy that helps students to improve their reading comprehension of analytical expostion texts. This strategy is called three column notes Strategy. Therefore, in this research, the researcher conducted the research in order to find out the significant difference and significant effect of using three column notes Strategy on students’ reading comprehension of analytical expositions texts of the second year students at State Senior High School1 Kampar. The design of this research was an experimental research. The type of the research was a quasi-experimental research. The researcher took two classes as the sample of the research that consisted of 32 students in each class. The technique of data collection was test. Meanwhile, to analyze the data, the researcher used Independent Sample T-test formula by using SPSS 23.0 Version, the Eta Squared formula was used to find out the effect size. Based on the analysis of T-test Formula, Ha is accepted because the sig. value is 0.000<0.05.In other words, there is a significant difference and significant effect of the students’ reading comprehension of analytical exposition text between those who are taught by using Three Column Notes Strategy and taught without using Three Column Notes Strategy of the second year at State Senior High School 1 Kampar.
