Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems faced by students of State Senior High School 1 XIII Koto Kampar in reading narrative text. Based on researchers’ preliminary study, the students still had problem in reading comprehension such as some of the students were not able to comprehend the text well, they were not able to identify information of the text and they couldn’t answer the questions given based on the text given. The type of the research was a quasi-experimental research which used two groups in the research. They were control group and experimental group. The design used was pre-test – post-test control group design. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students at State Senior High School 1 XIII Koto Kampar. There were 60 students as sample from 114 students. To analyze the data, the researcher used independent sample t-test by using SPSS 16.0 and effect size formula by Julie Pallant. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that there was significant effect of using One Stays the Rest Stray Technique on Students’ Reading Comprehension at students of State Senior High school 1 XIII Koto Kampar where to is 6.623 while the level significance of 5% is 2.00 and the level significance of 1% is 2.65. It can be read that 2.00<6.623>2.65. Thus, the researcher can conclude that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Then, based on the result of the t-test we can see that by using effect size formula the effect size is 0.43. In other words, there is a significant effect of using One Stays the Rest Stray technique of the eleventh grade students at State Senior High School 1 XIII Koto Kampar of Kampar Regency.
