Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out whether the students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text who were taught by using Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy have better score than those without being taught by using Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy, and to find out whether there is any significant difference between students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text taught and without being taught by using Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy. This research was an Experimental Research. The design was a quasi experimental research. The writer formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. The subject of the research was the tenth grade students at Vocational High School Multi Mekanik Masmur Pekanbaru. The object of the research was Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy and reading comprehension of descriptive text. The writer took two classes, experimental and control. Experimental class consisted of with 32 students in it, and control class consisted of 32 students in it. The data were collected by using multiple choice test. The result of this research was; first, (Ho) was rejected and (Ha) was accepted (66.88 > 54.06) or students’ who participate in Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy class would have better reading comprehension than the students who participated in conventional class. Second, 0.00 had smaller than 0.05. (Ho) was rejected, and (Ha) was accepted which showed Ho: 0.00 > 0.05 and Ha : 0.00 < 0.05. In other words, there was a significant difference between using and without using Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC). From the result it can be concluded that teaching reading by using Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy gave large effect to reading comprehension of the students at Vocational High School Multi Mekanik Masmur Pekanbaru Key words: Effect, Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy, Reading comprehension
