Abstract
In this research the learners still had problems in learning reading, for example, some students could not understand about the content of reading text and identify the detailed information of the text. They could not also answer the questions given after reading a text, especially on narrative text. The objective of this research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of using SQ4R Strategy on reading comprehension of narrative text. The design of this research was a quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the students of the Tenth grade at Islamic Senior High School Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru, in 2016-2017 academic years. The total number of population was 159 students. The sample was taken by using cluster sampling. The sample was class X 1 that consisted of 28 students as an experimental group, and class X 2 consisted of 30 students as a control group. So, the number of sample from two classes was 58 students. To analyze the data, the researcher adopted independent sample T-test formula by using software SPSS 22.0 version program and analyzed it by comparing sig.2-tailed with 0.05. After analyzing the data, the writer found that the score of Sig.2-tailed is Smaller than 0.05, which showed (0.000>0.05). It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using SQ4R strategy on students’ reading comprehension of tenth grade students at Islamic Senior High School Darel Hikmah Pekanbaru.
