Abstract

This research was conducted because the problems of students’ comprehension in reading narrative text at Senior High School 5 Pekanbaru. For example, some of the students have the difficulties to identify the main idea, identify the specific information, identify inference, still confuse to identify communicative purpose, and identify generic structure in reading narrative text. The objective of this research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of by using Paired Reading (PR) strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text of the tenth grade at Senior High School 5 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was a quasy experimental design and the total number of population was 280 students. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the score of t0 was higher than t table, which showed (0.05 > 0.000). It can be concluded that the students’ comprehension in reading narrative text taught by using Paired Reading (PR) strategy was better than who were taught without using Paired Reading (PR) strategy at Senior High School 5 Pekanbaru. Besides, the researcher also found that the result of effect size was 38%.. It means that there was significant effect of using Paired Reading (PR) strategy on students’ comprehension in reading narrative text of the tenth grade at Senior High School 5 Pekanbaru.
