Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of using Drill Method on students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text at Darul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School Pekanbaru. It has three formulations of the problems that focus on finding out about (1) the levels of students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text before being taught by using Drill Method, (2) the levels of students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text after being taught by using Drill Method and (3) whether there is a significant effect of using Drill Method on students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text of tenth grade at Darul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School Pekanbaru.The researcher formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. The type of the research was Pre-Experimental research. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students at Darul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School in academic year 2015-2016. Total number of population was 187 students. Sample was taken by using purposive sampling. The sample was class X 1 which consists of 28 students. To analyze the data, the writer adopted Paired sample T-test or Dependent Sample T-test dengan menggunakan SPSS versi 20. The finding of Sig.(2-tailed) < 0.05 was (0.00 < 0.05). Thus, the writer concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In other words, there is a significant effect of using Drill Method on students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School Pekanbaru. Besides, the writer also found that the result of effect size was 0,64. It means that there was significant effect of using Drill Method on students’ comprehension in reading descriptive text at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School Pekanbaru
