Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the tenth grade students’ error in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text at SMK Taruna Satria Pekanbaru. This study was a descriptive research. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students of SMK Taruna Satria Pekanbaru while the object of this research was students’ error in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text. The researcher used simple random sampling technique to take the sample, there were 43 students as sample from 291 students. To collect the data, the researcher used document. The document was conducted to know what types of errors were made by the students when they use simple present tense in writing descriptive textand to know what sourcesoferrors were made by the students when they use simple present tense in writing descriptive text. The result of the error analysis process showed that students committederror into four types: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. From the calculation of the data, error of misorderingis the most frequent errors that done by the tenth grade students of SMK Taruna Satria Pekanbaru with the percentage 50.5%. Moreover, it is followed by error of omissionwith percentage 24.7%, error of misformationwith percentage 17.0%, and error of addition with percentage 7.7%. The data also indicate that Intralingual transfer is the major source of the error. These errors are caused by the learner overgenerates the rules in wrong concept.
