Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the students’ reading comprehension and its difficulty of Barret Taxonomy. Based on the writer’s preliminary research, it is found that some of the eight-grade students at State Junior High School 4 Siak Hulu had problems in reading comprehension. The problems are noticed in their inability to achieve the passing grade State Junior High School 4 Siak Hulu. This research has one variable that is students’ reading comprehension. It is a descriptive quantitative research. The subject of this research is the eight-students at StateJunior High School 4 Siak Hulu. The writer uses simple random sampling to select the sample. The writer has selected 5 students from each class. Furthermore, the sample of this research is 40 students. There are 40 students out of 333 students. In collecting the data, the writer has administered multiple choice and short-answer question test. From the descriptive statistical analysis, it is found that: 1) the students’ reading comprehension is categorized into less level at score 54.9. 2) the most difficult taxonomy is about appreciation. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students’ reading comprehension in recount text at State Junior High School 4 Siak Hulu is categorized into “less level” and the most difficult taxonomy of reading comprehension for the students is taxonomy 4 (appreciation). Based on the result, the writer suggests that the teacher to be more creative in teaching to make students more focusin order to improve their reading comprehension. Moreover, the students also should be more active in the class in order to give feedback to the teacher. Keywords: Analysis, Reading Comprehension, Recount Text, Taxonomy.
